Post-Graduate Programme

Modules are building blocks which when carefully designed and assembled in a meticulous, pre-determined sequence unify the diverse dimensions of the complex management process into an integrated whole without leaving any gaps and avoiding unnecessary overlaps.

An illustration is provided by the module on Cost Analysis which gets started almost at the beginning of the first term of the first year. It deals only with the decision-making aspects of cost accounting and is necessary for the students to understand the Mathematical Tools applicable in the managerial context. The control aspects of cost accounting are covered in the second term when the students' exposure is wider. In contrast elsewhere, usually there is only one course in Cost Accounting in the second term. This leads to unnecessary duplication of certain relevant cost concepts in Quantitative methods course.

IIMI employs a combination of teaching methods such as case studies, projects, independent studies, group discussions, seminars, and presentations by guest speakers from the industry and government. The case method is the predominant pedagogical tool as it encourages creativity, sharpens the analytical skills of the participants and helps them analyze problems from a multi-functional perspective. Instructors mainly guide the group, encourage participants to develop and defend arguments, and take decisions. Occasionaly, instructors request the class for impromptu presentations or written reports.
