Indore
has long been touted as the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh.
Formerly a major trading centre, the past two decades have seen
the city establish a strong industrial base for itself as well,
through satellite industrial townships like Pithampur and Dewas.
The era of liberalisation has seen Indore at the forefront of a
number of privatisation measures. These include, the country's first
toll road and private telephone network.

The Agra-Bombay Road ( National Highway # 3 ) runs through the City
of Indore. Indore has regular bus service (ordinary / semiluxury
/ luxury) to all cities nearby and long distance services to places
like Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Mumbai, Pune, Jaipur and a number of other
cities. State Transport buses operate from Sarvate bus stand (near
Indore Railway Station) and Gangwal bus stand (west Indore, on Dhar
Road). Private buses mostly operate from Indira Complex Bus Stand
near Navlakha Chauraha. Within the city,the mode of pubic road transport
is Autorickshaw. Tourist Taxi service is limited to visiting places
mostly outside Indore. Fourteen seater diesel Tempos are available
on several routes criss-crossing the city. Nearby cities like Dewas
and Mhow are connected by a mini-bus survice with a good frequency.

Train
There
are daily express trains connecting Indore with Delhi (Nizamuddin
Express), Jammu Tawi (Malwa Express) and Mumbai (Avantika Express).
There are weekly trains for Cochin (Ahilya Nagari Express), Calcutta
(Kshipra Express), and Jaipur. In addition, there are several other
trains connecting Indore with other cities like Ajmer, Chittorgarh,
Khandwa, Kachiguda etc. through metre gauge lines. Fast Intercity
Express runs between Indore - Bhopal. Shuttle service is available

By Air
Indore is connected by air with Mumbai, Delhi, Gwalior, Bhopal,
Pune etc. The daily air service is run by Alliance Air (Indian Airlines),
Vayudoot (for Pune), NEPC Skylink, and Jet Airways. Flights to Ahmedabad
and Calcutta are expected to begin in near future.

Indore has a moderately extreme climate.
Winter : In winter (November to February), the night low
is around 10C. At the peak of winter, it can be as low as 2 to 3C.
The record low is +1.5C.
Summer : During summer (April-June), the days are hot (35-40C)
with the peak summer (May) day temprature sometimes touching 45C.
Due to its location on the southern edge of the Malwa plateau, however
hot it may be during the day, in the late evening, cool breeze starts
which makes the evenings quite pleasant.
Rainfall : Indore gets moderate rainfall of 30-35 inches
(~80cms) during July - September due to S.W. monsoon
